Metaverse App Oculus Ranks #1 on App Store and Google Play

Oculus VR headsets were one of the most popular Christmas gifts of 2021, as the virtual reality app ranked first on the App Store and Google (NASDAQ:) Play during the holiday weekend. The VR headset company is part of Zuckerberg’s Meta Platforms.

The latest Oculus Quest 2 is the most popular VR headset currently available on the market, with more than 10 million headsets sold.

Trusted Reviews wrote that Oculus Quest 2 is “the ideal present for anyone to receive this Christmas.” The headset has also been included in Oprah Daily as the top gift of 2021.

Tech Advisor reported that in October 2021 Oculus Quest 2 accounted for over 35% of all VR headset usage on Steam.

According to Statista, current predictions for the global VR and AR (augmented reality) market’s sales is tallied to be almost $300 billion by 2024.

  • Meta plans to rename the Oculus Quest to “Meta Quest.”
  • Kakie Urch, a multi-media professor at the University of Kentucky, believes that the metaverse could negatively impact human interactions and social lives.
