Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Sydney, the added 1.65% to hit a new 3-months high.

The best performers of the session on the were Charter Hall Group (ASX:), which rose 12.23% or 1.35 points to trade at 12.39 at the close. Meanwhile, IGO Ltd (ASX:) added 11.30% or 0.85 points to end at 8.37 and Pilbara Minerals Ltd (ASX:) was up 8.74% or 0.31 points to 3.80 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Orora Ltd (ASX:), which fell 3.36% or 0.09 points to trade at 2.59 at the close. Qbe Insurance Group Ltd (ASX:) declined 3.11% or 0.45 points to end at 14.00 and Metcash Ltd (ASX:) was down 3.07% or 0.11 points to 3.47.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 816 to 426 and 352 ended unchanged.

Shares in Metcash Ltd (ASX:) fell to 52-week lows; down 3.07% or 0.11 to 3.47.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 1.49% to 9.77.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 2.41% or 48.15 to $2,045.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.30% or 0.21 to hit $69.68 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.42% or 0.31 to trade at $74.57 a barrel.

AUD/USD was up 0.80% to 0.67, while AUD/JPY fell 0.12% to 95.08.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 102.25.
